Our school, which opened in 1976, was named for Julius Marks, whose son had given land to the city of Lexington to build a sanitarium with the agreement that a school be named for his father. The residents of the Georgetown Road area wanted to keep the name Booker T. Washington for a school being constructed on another site, so the Marks' heirs gave permission to use their name for the next school.
